If youre not sure, heres how to help someone who is: 1) If the casualty is breathing, encourage them to cough 2) If they cant speak or stop coughing or breathing, support their upper body with one hand, help them lean forward and give up to five sharp blows between their shoulder blades with the heel of your hand 3) If the back blows dont work, try abdominal thrusts. Make sure theyre still bending forwards then clench your fist and place it between the naval and bottom of their breastbone. Grasp your fist firmly and pull sharply inwards up to five times. 4) If the obstruction hasnt cleared, repeat steps 2 and 3 up to three times 5) If the obstruction still hasnt cleared, call 999 for emergency help.
