Would you love it if he sang to you old songs of peace and joy? Would you listen if he warned of present things? Would you dance and sing in understanding the tempest yet to come? Would you revel in the fire set by the King? For wide and easy is the way and gate the world longs for And narrow is the path promised to me. The itching ears of the last time will never heed or fear The warnings of the sober coming King. As the wedding song and funeral dirge would not before move those who once beheld the very face of strength, and power, and grace. Yet the truth the watchman calls, it still remains. Seasons change and time must move For all things to be new And great and wild are the promised things One generation stands between the fall and His return One generation pure and spotless brings Herself to be presented to the trial and to the fire To walk and stand in coals of earthly kings And in advance of this great hour The long dark night foretold The watchman calls "now is the time to sing" To fill the lamps with truth, and light, and strength forged in the fire Of separation from soft and pleasant dreams As darkness tense and thick extends from peak to stream to shore The maiden longs for comfort and for peace Yet in her longing she stands firm as choices are removed The watchman calls the time "one hour more" The hour stretches, the day is marked, the longing minutes pass Yet the truth the watchman calls, it still remains The promise is that few will hear the warning of the flood The business of the day, it will prevail To hinder many from the choices one pure Bride will make To heed the call and fill the lamps with oil The sun still shines and children play The waning hours of day For now the depth of darkness hard to see In an hour as darkness grows and weak lights flicker out The wisdom of the warning is made plain Yet the truth the watchman calls, it still remains
