Wouldnt you know it ... a total fire ban day today due to extremely volatile conditions, and sure enough somebody lights up a small rubbish fire. Problem is that with a little puff of wind the fire escaped, and became a very big fire. You may have seen the smoke over in the Bees Creek/Belgrave Road direction today, and the firefighting operation took about nine hours from go to whoa. Grateful thanks to the Bushfires NT air strike team for their assistance in gaining control ... we couldnt have done it without you. I think you also had a few BFNT volunteer grassfire units on the ground as well. Thanks guys!!
