Wouldnt you like a Hard Rock Cafe downtown? Hells no. Why not? Overpriced Americana food thats available everywhere else cheaper, eye-candy celebrity crap that means nothing, and overpriced cheap beer. No, we dont need more beer and drunks downtown. But it would be cool! No, it would be flashy. Flashy is far, far different from cool. Its an illusion. That same burger you paid $12 for, with the chips on the side? Betcha get better from Tailpipes at cheaper. And the money stays here. That memorabilia? I dont really care what some movie star signed and touched once so it could be shipped off to their restaurant. Put up the nasty shirt and a set of sticks and picks from that band of local kids busting their asses to entertain people here. That beer? Im a local. Im sick of the local drunks. I dont want them having more available so they can pester the rest of us and then make a mess for us to clean up. That girl the management gave a dress code to, and a sheet of rules for dealing with customers? Bleh. Boring. You break this down, dont you? Not really, it just comes with knowing the locals. We do NOT need another corporate restaurant here, with standardized cheap and fast recipes. Stuff thats trucked into the kitchen with the restaurant brand already stamped on it. The resulting money going far, far away into some already rich persons pocket. No, I wnt the local stuff, some pride in the product, and the money staying here, where it can hopefully come back to me. But I want something cool downtown! I suggest you change your idea of cool, youve got it wrong.
