Wounded Pride So now we know what to expect. Ten years cycle, foreigners are trooping back, IMF winking. This is a different time. Taliban have cut short this vision. It has to be their way or the highway. There will not be a ten years cycle. Either the state will surrender or there will be immense pain. What is lost on the ground can never be recovered by diplomacy. To win you have to negotiate from a position of strength then only your opponents will listen. This brings me to the subject I want to focus on. We will only win if our economy strong then we can dictate the terms. Beggars have never been known to be able to dictate terms. So much time has been lost, nursing a sense of wounded pride. We do not like to be dictated by America though America may be the only friend we have left. Obama does not even want to meet our Prime Minister. He will only shake hands with Nawaz Sharif at a reception. How do we recover credibility? Forget about Turkey, the PM was summoned there to be given a blueprint on what is expected of him, messages were conveyed and received. Over and out.The war will be won on economics. Our sense of pride will only be restored if we can restore our economy. Here is what I propose, dump the baggage of the past. There is absolutely no reason to carry the loss making Pakistan International Airline (PIA). Sell it to Emirates Air Line; they will know how to run it. Let PIA discover tomorrow. What a joyous journey it can be. Just because it is Pakistani you would hold on to it. I ask you then was not the Pakistan Telecom Company Limited (PTCL), a Pakistani enterprise, why did you sell this crown jewel to Etisalat? Was it not because you needed the funding to feed your budget deficits? We are unable to keep the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) operative, there is no money. Close the mill, sell the assets and payoff the labor otherwise you will spend years and years maintaining an asset that will never be profitable. How can a bankrupt regime hold on to these assets?I could go on and on giving you examples about the baggage of the past that needs to be shed. My point is bury the past, learn from the bridge players, throw the losers on the losers and save your contract.
