Wow - thats some insight. So - if we increase revenue, then... we dont have to cut spending as much? (Picture John Cleese saying this like the witch burning scene in Holy Grail) Its nice to see that the CoA chairperson can do basic maths. Hes wrong on one very important point, though - When he said they [the Abbott Government] did make one iron-clad promise, and I think it was a fundamental reason why they were elected, was to return the budget to a sustainable surplus, hes clearly talking out of his butt, because all during the campaign (and still - including just last week) Abbott and Hockey made it very clear that they were not going to promise a return to surplus anytime soon. They did, however, repeatedly promise not to raise taxes.
