Wow Brethren Take a bow guys….that was magic! So many golden things….sure I gotta start with the golden helpers of Kellie,Margaret,Kerri,Rochelle & of course Lyndall who were there from before 7am and were there at the close with mops in hands. But then fellas came outta nowhere - Dutchy & Vinny leading a crew putting up canopies, roping out fields... But some special mentions: - Eliza Lowrie you were great - you now No. 1 Lowrie! - Just when I swore at 8am where’d f’ing Joey O’Brien go cause he was supposed to be getting me more poles, then over I look & to see Joey Gommersall himself as he blows the whistle to Ref his first ever game of Rugby!! - Them U 13’s reciting our new war cry, “Hoketika,Hoketika…..” in the middle of the field before starting the game and then amongst their parents after the game when they defeated their life long foes from Flinders in a tight one - Club Captain Dylan Foster having a pre-game chat to some of our little ones - Mr Michael Hayes…Michael has the unique position as being the Flinders Director of Rugby as well as coaching our golden Brothers Flinders 12’s, the Flinders Club 13’s AND the Flinders’ School 13’s…he answered a Brothers SOS to ref Friday nights 6.30 U 16 game we hosted…but even better was the half time gee up he gave his 13’s today playing against us…Brothers 13’s were all lined out ready to receive 2nd half kick, Ref blew time to go twice & here’s Haysey still letting his team know the finer details in their huddle for what seemed at least 5 minutes…all this & he is wearing a Brothers’ Polo shirt….one of his best…no wonder his Players all hold him so highly…almost as high as us - The comebacks of the 14’s & 15’s to both defeat Noosa in the final stages including Danny Gibson scoring a great try…even more magic in that he did it for the 14’s backing up from a great game in the 13’s - Thanks to Flinders President Michael Molloy who finished watching his son Charlie have a great game in our 15’s and then spend almost an hour untangling a V O’Brien S. Mc Cormack 200metre rope 3 final mentions, despite the efforts of EVERYONE who helped today and also those who contributed to the Wheelbarrow Raffle,the Millsons who saved our Bacon or was it the Elks eggs (I can’t remember which one came first??): 1. That Cake stall…wow..Kerry-Anne deJager showed that running them Rhinos 9’s is not her only talent…she co-ordinated the talents of some of the U 8,9 & 11 mums (& you too Kiwi McCormack & ya miniature Tiny Teddy choc chip bikkies)…raised an amazing $353 dollars!!! Great $$ but it added another dimension to the day, and being a keen baker myself - I know the hours that went into those delicacies!! Please check our Facebook for some great pictures. 2. My wife Lyndall and the work she put into our Deluxe H Charlesworth Bacon,Egg,Hash Browns,Rocket,Balsamic Tomato Relish on a Turkish roll…hours into it & buying Gatorade,water…we must be a chance of winning the Competition. 3. Glenn & Shane of Vantage…we forget how lucky we are with these guys on board…not only are they part of a very switched U 9 Rugby Unit but other Clubs would give their left…arm..to have what they give us.. but they are also very hands on and today had such a different feel…Hot FM 91.1 were great,Jumping castle…all our signs for once were not black Craven Nikko penned on Butchers paper…today was very professional but was still full of Blue,White ‘Hokitekka and smiles. Heck I forgot about the efforts of Coralie Walsh and her 15’s at Friday’s Bangers at The Barrack’…Vinny was his usual Chip machine expert…Mark Price did a magic BBQ stint and Jacinta Elks & Tanya Jowett helping…that was a tough gig…lucky the 15’s guys helped at the end….but it really was the Coralie show…Thank you!! As I said, that was a great weekend for the Club for so many reasons. The magic of the home season draw sees us backing up to do it again in 2 weeks on June 21 (but then NOT again till 9 August) but more to come soon about June 21 with also being our Get Together for the season with a Casino Royale /French theme…007’s & Kerry/Clayton Packers everywhere - as we have organised professional croupiers with legitimate Roulette wheels & Blackjack tables…Wallabies vs France in background as well as live music…details in next 3 days but please mark the night aside. Thank you to all & especially those names I missed (We really were good today)
