Wow. First action movie Ive really enjoyed in a long time. I went to a late show after a terrible day, and I was in an awful mood. I didnt expect to like it, but I just wanted something to take my mind off of troubles. And lo... this more than did the trick. Derivative, visually chaotic, and lacking much in the way of substance, but EDGE OF TOMORROW (which has been re-titled LIVE. DIE. REPEAT for its video release) was surprisingly enjoyable due to a smart, funny screenplay, fantastic editing, and one of the most engaging Tom Cruise performances of his career. In a way, watching the movie felt like watching Tom Cruises career... watching him try a formula over and over and over and over and over again until he finds a way to make a character live. And Emily Blunt plays this as if shes auditioning for... and supremely deserving of... the role of Sarah Connor. That, too, is worth seeing. And now, back to the formula of another day, in which I really hope to find a better path through it. Wish I was wearing mechanized body armor.
