Wow! Had big plans to rip out the old garden today and plant garlic and onions. Dug into the compost pile and it was too dry so the damned ants had moved back in! {{{Grrrr :^/ }}} So, I got the plants that are no longer producing, well or at all, yanked out, emptied the pots of soil that were left from the two potted plants into the main garden and the fabric planting mini-yard and watered and tilled it all up with the shovel, hoe and Action Hoe (what a name! Pic below... great tool!). Watered the compost heap to run off the damned ants (theyll move into the house now) and will do some reading up on planting the garlic and onions for the winter. Got a six pack each of sprouted Nootka Rose and Silver Rose garlic from Kings Nursery and two bulbs of California Pink garlic to start. Thinking about some Bogatyr (originally from Moscow, a very hot garlic) or some Spanish Roja (a really tasty garlic originally cultivated in Spain, though all varieties of garlic, I just found out, came from the ten groups of hardnecks that evolved in the Caucasus Mountains between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea). Learn somethin new EVERY DAY! ;) Stopped by the West End Farmers Market and picked up some sun dried tomatoes to chop along with some of my year-end peppers and throw into the next loaves of bread I make. The two I bakes last night turned out awesome! They dont have that crunchy, dark crust the pictures show, so I guess Im going to have to work on that, but the inside is spongy and a tad sour, very springy (THAT is what gluten does to bread!) and really good. Now, enjoy some Amazon Prime Music Jazz Channel and a few ice cold beers, a cigar and some tips on raising garlic and onions.
