Wow I just discovered someone I knew nothing about, African American stage actor Ira Aldridge, born in 1807, who is the only African American actor of only thirty-three actors honored at the Shakespeare Memorial Theater at Stratford-Upon-Avon in England. He was honored by several different countries for his acting career and spent the greater part of his performing on stages in London, England. He attended the African Free School in New York City for children of Free Blacks and slaves. He is buried in Poland. I want to find a biography about this mans life. I learned about him, while researching my interview with Beverly Bremers, because she collaborated on a musical, Born A Unicorn. with Ted Lange (you may remember as Isaac Washington on Love Boat) and the musical is based on the life of Ira Aldridge.
