Wow! Look at these images! In the tradition of Wilson (Snowflake) Bentley, one of the first photographers to capture the intricacies of individual snowflakes, Douglas Levere catches his subjects as they fall or sweeps them up with a fine paintbrush, sometimes from off the hood of his car. He puts them on glass slides and brings them to his garage, the only place in his house where it is cold enough to work, and then, using a homemade device—more or less a microscope lens attached to a digital camera—he photographs them in close-up, often as many as fifty times per snowflake. Finally, he combines the many images into one sharp portrait.
