Wow. Seems like only yesterday I was sitting at my first RWA conference, listening to authors fight for the right to be recognised as Professional Authors despite the fact they were with digital publishing houses. Then, through the past few years, Ive listened and supported the argument of independent authors (self published) fight for the right to be acknowledged as Professional Authors (despite the fact many well-known print authors had gone self-pub digital, but thats ok)..And, now I read Hearts Talk and am blown away. Well done. Now to be considered Professional Authors for that special day we must show the colour of our money. I dont recall signing up to be a PAN member?? I thought this was RWA? Our RWA. So, you might like to clarify..these earnings would you like that out the past fiscal or calendar year?? Would you like receipts notarised?? I dont know about anyone else, and I certainly dont speak on behalf of anyone else, but Im damned uncomfortable with the notion of having to prove my earnings (big or small) to anyone other than the tax man. I like to think that any author who has gone through the hard work of finally being published is deserving of the title Professional Author REGARDLESS of what they have earned. WE all know how subjective the market is. That you may not have written a book that is in vogue and therefore may not have sold as many as others. This is the one small comfort we give ourselves that at the end of the day what we do is worth it regardless of what we have earned. But, thanks for the reality check....or was that cheque?? Next, we may be judged on the sub-genre we write, or do we use a Mac or PC or do we have a cat. ..In which case I sadly fail the last one...allergies.. Whats with the gmail address? Have you a privacy disclaimer for the earnings figures? And I love the general disclaimer about where RWAs direction may/may not lie...but I think its becoming clear....why you even bothered, I have no idea..but, cheers...makes me all warm and fuzzy inside to know you care.
