Wow! Such a warm welcome on twitter! That was much easier to gain followers than a year and a half ago when I started Lynettes Law twitter account. Already some big names are following me. Its almost like a sense of freedom to speak freely out of the shadow of the ribbon. Maintaining multiple roles is difficult and can be very isolating at times. On one hand, my duty is to inform, educate and persuade lawmakers with victim testimonies and research which requires me to be professional and not emotional. On the other hand, Im still one of the only people TA victim-survivors reach out to so I have to keep the emotions on the surface to be able to help them. Truthfully speaking, Im in a unique and very difficult position. Sometimes I use my head and sometimes, I use my heart. Some lawmakers are annoyed and or frustrated that I have tagged them in educational/ research posts/videos. My head tells me to be sorry, but my heart tells me to say so what. If youre annoyed by my tagging then pass my bill. I mean, its not you taking 2am-4am suicidal calls from these victims because they cant find any help. You very specifcally asked to be in your positions, one that comes with people getting angry with you and people constantly reaching out. I; however, didnt ask to be in this position nor am I paid to do what I do. Social media has brought the system closer to the people. It provides an access to lawmakers for those who cant leave their homes like senior citizens, disabled vets, and disadvantaged families who cant make it to Annapolis for many reasons. So, Im both sorry and not sorry that you are annoyed. What annoys me is how you dont read emails and then vote against my bills and I ask you why you voted that way given the information you had and your response is you dont read emails. Quite frankly, Ive been respectful and have avoided going nuclear on any lawmaker even in times where I had every right to do so. Respect is a two-way street. If you think you can go through what I have and handle things any better, be my guest. Ill gladly trade places. Otherwise, show victims some respect. By the way, there is plenty of research, some of which Ive given you, on angry victims. Thats me! Even the research shows that its the angry victims who change this cycle of abuse and hold perps and enablers accountable.
