Wow!! Such truth in this article!! As an educator, I can totally see the validity of her position. We were/are NOT perfect parents, but we DID determine we would not use disrespectful words, such as shut up, in our home, & yelling was not an option. Unfortunately, I did find other ways to verbally wound our son. Parents, our words, tone of voice, facial expressions, & silence communicate who our children are in our eyes. If I could do one thing over, it would be to be more careful with those things.
