Wow. The study seems well designed and controlled, and the Business Insider synopsis of the study is VERY well written...but they leave out the actual number. When women watched a female dominated math study group, and were then tested on GRE level questions, they got about 63% correct. When they watched a math study group where no man or woman acted dominant, they got 58% correct. When they watched a video of the study group with a dominant male, their marks fell to 28%. This is not grading on a curve. The number of incorrect answers MORE THAN DOUBLED when a dominant man led the study group. 1) We need more female math teachers and teaching assistants! 2) But thats not all of the problem. In our society, university age men are much more likely to assert leadership roles in informal settings such as study groups (to not coin a phrase, they are much better at leaning in). That will be difficult to control... Heads up call for Kristina Schneider, Leah Eichler, Barbara Stewart, Yvonne Holland and many more.
