Wow! This is a powerful article that really gets to the truth of the matter. This is what pediatricians face every single day. Without exception, every single day I find myself engaged in the same kind of conversation and like the article states, many times I truly get the feeling that the parent in front of me, really, really believes that I am part of a vast conspiracy determined to harm children and make lots of money while doing it. Few years ago I used to get deeply hurt by it, my husband could tell you stories of my crying at the dinner table, now I have come to accept it as part of life. I still continue to see patients that do not vaccinate or decide on the alternative schedule. Deep down I still hope that eventually they will get to know me and begin to trust me a little more in the matter of vaccines, but I am slowly coming to the very painful realization that it is not happening. Most anti-vaccine parents listen to other sources and they have put total faith in those sources. My conclusion is the same. I am not a politician, and I totally believe in people self determination, and let free to exercise the freedom we enjoy in this Country. With that said, the exercise of such freedom should never get to the point of hurting someone else. In refusing to vaccinate we are hurting our precious children. I know I am going to get some very spirited comments on this, but the truth need to be told.
