Wow! We are flying through the Old Testament in the Year of the Bible. Today we begin the book of Esther. The story of Esther revolves around Gods providential care of his people. As you read through Esther take special note of the fact that though God is never mentioned, the LORD is certainly never absent. Heres todays reading. In Esther, the story begins at a great state banquet where Queen Vashti refuses to be on display. This action leads to her being deposed as queen, causing the king to find a new queen. Esther is chosen as queen but she keeps her Jewish origins a secret. The plot thickens when Esthers cousin Mordecai exposes an assassination attempt on the king, and later refuses to bow down to Haman (the kings right hand man). Hamans wounded pride causes him to set into motion a plot to exterminate Mordecai and all the Jews from the empire. In Psalms, we pray a song of lament asking God to let his compassion come speedily to meet us. ow.ly/z2O8g
