Wow! We had a real scary storm here last night! I was outside - TopicsExpress

Wow! We had a real scary storm here last night! I was outside hanging out with the chickens when the sky got real dark. It seemed like it was night, but it wasn’t. I was kind of confused. Then I heard momma call me. Her voice was LOUD and sounded different for some reason. Something about it told me I should listen to her and go into the house. So I did and right away. Rain started pouring down real fast. I was looking out of the window and saw momma grabbing up chickens from the yard and rushing them into the coop. I have lived here for all my life, over 4 years and I never saw momma do that before. Momma was VERY wet when she came back into the house. Then the rain stopped and it got quiet outside. I thought maybe we could all go outside again to play, but momma knew that quiet all of a sudden was not a good thing. All of the sudden our cell phone went off making loud sounds that are called a siren and it kept flashing something that I guess said EXTREME ALERT! Momma shouted out to dad. He grabbed Freddi our Macaw …they covered all of the other birds cages with quilts, momma picked me up and we went into the basement. Timmy, our pet starling followed us into the basement even though he has never been there. Starlings are pretty smart, but more about him later. We have a special place in the basement that is the “safest” place to be in case of a tornado. We have quilts there and blankets and other stuff like flashlights and even water bottles and food for all of us. Tornados come with real strong wind and sometimes they can blow over houses! Yikes! Momma held me tight and dad held Freddi in case the wind came to our house. It wasn’t too long and the cell phone went off again and told us it was OK to go back upstairs. When we were back in the living room we watched the funny clouds and rain from the back window. Dad said we had almost 4 inches of rain in just a few hours last night! That is a lot of rain and a little time. We had quite a scary time last night but I am happy our house was not hurt and my friends are all OK here. I wonder how the wild birds protected themselves outside when things like that happen. Momma says sometimes they get hurt and then they have to come to us for help. I hope if you ever have a tornado at your house you come in when the siren rings or if your momma calls. I learned I should always listen to momma when her voice is loud and scary sounding. Sending love to all of my friends. The silly storm changed the settings on mommas computer and made it look like I hacked her computer. I DID NOT!! :) I have an ethical turkey.:)
