Wow, a great discussion on another page. A chiropractor who was not bathed in philosophy in school is now questioning extremity adjusting. It hit a hot button which got responses that were heated a bit. I will only share my response: XXXXX, I get where you are coming from. I was an athletic trainer before I became a chiropractor. I was a "mixer" for 19 of the 23 years I have been in practice. I get you brother. Now here is what I have found: When I made a conscious decision to be come the best chiropractor I could be, I decided to focus on one thing and be the best at it. That became locating and correcting vertebral subluxations. It was a decision that changed my life. If you are adjusting extremities, I will bet that you are doing it because of the reason I did it...to make the shoulder, knee, wrist, ankle, foot, etc. feel better. You think that you are doing the greatest good. You are the healer, so, in fact you may be. But what I want you to know is that when I began only adjusting the spine to remove subluxations for the sole purpose of restoring the connection from the brain to the body so that the body could heal itself, true healings took place. Now that I see how powerful the adjustments are, I see about 500 people a week by focusing on just one thing which is LACVS. I am now thinking that BJ Palmer was and is right. It is more about getting a Hole In One (HIO). Just like in golf, the best possible shot takes the least amount of swings of the club; I now believe the most powerful adjustment takes the least number of segments to be moved. When I adjusted a kid in a coma that woke up, I merely adjusted C1. When I adjusted a child that was blinded by a peanut tumor in his head and he immediately regained his vision, I merely adjusted C1. Knowing this, what is the purpose of adjusting an extremity except to reduce pain, increase the range of motion and STEAL the credit from innate when I am now confident that after the adjustment it would have corrected itself anyway. For that matter, what is the purpose of adjusting below C1 or C2 ?? Give it time, really give the adjustment a chance to work and I am confident that you will come to the same scientific conclusions that I have come to. God Bless you my Chiropractic Brother.
