Wow, it has been so long since I posted anything other then a picture. This last few months have truly gotten away with me. I Know Victoria has been so busy also. She is right in the middle of a kitchen remodel, how exciting but I know she has had a lot to do to get ready for this. Our little girl turned 12 this month so we have been trying to transform her room from a little girls room to a tween room, woooo what a chore. I have to say though, it has been fun going through all her things...and believe me she has many. It brought back so many memories, all the nursery rhyme books we used to read to her. As we were reading some of the nursery rhymes, one made me think because we had just been talking about gardens. It is this one. Mary, Mary quite contrary, How does your garden grow? With silver bells, and cockle shells, and pretty maids all in a row. We can smile at this because we know too well what makes a garden grow. It takes more then looking through a seed catalog, choosing our crops we want to grow and then settling back on the porch expecting to yield a harvest. We know it takes cultivating the ground, planting the seeds, weeding, fertilizing, watering, and then harvesting with more time off the porch then on. Yet in the same fairy-tale way, we can often fall into that mind set where we think Christians grow more like Christ every day without any action, any suffering, doubts, or pain. It is like we gather a few silver bells and cockle shells and soon we have arrived at being a full-blown Christian. We think that once we have become instantly sensitive to the Holy Spirit, we develop a giant faith with no fuss, no muss and certainly no hassle. But the hard core truth is that this is Not so! Just like the farmer knows, it is the cold hard labor that produces crops and rich harvests. This too can be likened to our spiritual growth. Growing is an action verb. It requires a decision of the will, a commitment to do, or at the very least some form of change. Most of us loathe the thought of moving out of our comfort zones, yet growing up in Christ means just that- moving and changing. Here is something to ponder on...The coming to Christ was the ...Event. But staying alive in HIm is a life-long process. I would like to share further with you about growing in Christ so I will continue on this subject a little bit at a time. Colossians 1:10 We pray...in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.
