Wow...its shameful how the media and fashion industry in particular exploit interns and make them work mad hours for less than minimum wage or no remuneration whatsoever. I see publishers in SA going the same route soon...(Yes, glamorous Elle Magazine...you with your famous one year unpaid internship!) We need to gain experience but for the love of all things good we need to cover living costs! Petrol is expensive and public transport isnt safe, rent is expensive and so is food and our varsity tuition fees. Most SA Media companies should be ashamed of themselves...soon your interns will be less than useless as they wont even be able to afford tuition (well...those who dont have loaded parents). There are so many bright young interns but they cant afford to get a job...anyone else see the irony in that? ;) We live in a wonderful world where you have to pay to have a job to gain experience. Lol! Im so blessed not to be just another statistic.
