Wow,just saw on the news that two of the kids where a mother with her 3 kids & pregnant, oldest child 3, they said Help, Mom is trying to kill us that drove her van into the ocean, unbelievable. Serious mental issues going on there, Im going to say a bi-polar schizophrenic by the way they described her look, etc. God above knows I was called to the ER so many times as a charge nurse to assess patients whether to admit or not. I would get my information, call the psychiatrist what I had I had found in my assessment & tell him whether I thought they should be admitted or not. Sometimes he let me make the call. All suicidal patients are admitted with family members approval that he/she was a harm to themselves. We had to get a court order to keep them regardless of family members permission if the patient wanted to leave. I got so mad at him once, I had a very young girl, as soon as I looked at her I felt she was suicidal. I assessed her, she was suicidal & even told me her plan on how she intended to do so. She was alone. I called the doc, no admission he said, I was livid, I told him What if this young girl steps out those ER doors & kills herself right there or somewhere on hospital grounds. You are aware we do have stairs outside that do go to the roof, wanna take that chance I told him I wasnt. I told him to come to the ER & see her. I stayed with her because I had another RN on the floor plus a couple of LVNs. He came, gave me his usual dirty look that he always gave to all of us & looked at her for a minute, read my assessment & said admit. Thank God she was a voluntary admission. I wanted to choke him!! Worst psych dr. I ever met!!
