Wow, listening to Mana explain to me, what it was like to be - TopicsExpress

Wow, listening to Mana explain to me, what it was like to be intubated. He described how he could feel the tube in his throat, how it made his nose itch, how it blew air into him (his words) , how it was helping him to breathe after his operation, he also explained how it hurt when it came out, and that if he spoke, laughed or coughed that it hurt too much, so he didnt like to talk or eat too much. Im floored by just how much he remembers from ICU. I NEVER let myself forget that Mana knew what was going on around him. Im so glad that I had one rule for everyone that visited Mana. No Crying In His Room! He was aware of his surroundings, if people were to come in crying and sobbing over his bed, it wouldve scared him. Especially if it were his family crying. Wed always remain positive, go into his room, muck around with one another, laugh, talk and be silly, just like we always do. It was hard work and exhausting, honestly at the end of everyday I was physically wrecked. But hearing Manas recollection of his experience has made me understand that we did the right thing. All the doctors, nurses and visitors did a wonderful job of making Mana feel safe, loved and as comfortable as he could be, considering his circumstances. I really look forward to hearing what else he has to say about his most recent hospital stay. He never ever says anything bad about it. He remembers the things he didnt like (such as the MCT diet) but he has never said it was awful, just that he remembers it. Thank you to everyone who has been there for Mana. Happy New Year and all the best for 2015.
