Wow lots of conversation in regards to the College/Career Fair, I - TopicsExpress

Wow lots of conversation in regards to the College/Career Fair, I will try my best to address all topics that came up. I will do so by giving some background knowledge first. The College/Career Fair was originated when I was being evaluated about two years ago for my current position at HPS. We (me and the admin evaluating me) were brainstorming on how we can get exposure to post secondary options for at-risk students. I suggested a college/career fair and we moved forward with the idea. Year One 12-13: researching events. I went to the CACC to see the career night, spoke with two administrators there and received some great information. Spoke with reps from LCC because they host a county wide College Fair for all Ingham county HS students. I worked through the summer and literally contacted by phone over a hundred schools. There is a lot of red tape to go through but I was persistent and was able to convince reps to come out to Holt. Year Two 13-14: first year implementation. We hosted our first event last year and had about 27 vendors and a decent turnout. We learned about being MACRO sanctioned and opted not to do that. we received great feedback from reps and word spread that the event was good. Year Three 14-15: this is the last year of my 3 year evaluation. The fair doubled in size with vendors and we had approximately 80 more students participate. This, like Challenge Day is not a sponsored event, which means it is not a schedule B event. I am not paid for it except for the fact that it is part if my performance evaluation, this is the last year of that cycle. That being said it is a well attended and worth looking into continuing because ALL students benefit from it. Volunteers: duties would consist of setting up and breaking down, maybe refreshments. Contacting schools and businesses would be an employee responsibility. Student volunteers: Students from Student Leadership Team 11/12 were there helping but clearly we can get more from other groups. Alumni: the purpose of reps is to provide the most current information to students and their families from then reps themselves not alumni Suggested schools: I will try to contact the schools trust have been suggested. Again, as stated before out of state schools are not as interested I traveling to a local MI college/career fair due to the percentage of applicants they might get from Holt. Looking at the data of where the class of 12-13 graduates applied to and attended I started from there and added to the list. If rep has another event there is nothing I can do except suggest they send someone else. I like the idea of polling students that can add to their interest along with the data I have, so thank you for that suggestion. The numbers from last in regards to attendance: Freshman: 42 Sophomores: 60 Juniors: 106 Seniors: 53 Total: 259 I think the event should continue and had great conversation with Mr. Willard and we will be brainstorming with counselors at both the main campus and north campus. If you would like to share information or have a booth for a business or educational institute we can surely talk. The Department of Treasury was there and they have all the info on the TIP program, plus grants and financial aide. Wow sorry for the long winded post hopefully this helped with some insight and information. Thanks for the feedback
