Wow, so much has happened in the past week and a half, Im not sure where to start... Well firstly, Ive been in the hospital for the past 48 hrs due to an infection in my cheek. This was a result of an abcessed tooth I had extracted on Tuesday of last week. The tooth was pulled and I was sent home with amoxicillin and some pain killers. Seems the amoxicillin didnt kill the infection and this past Tuesday the dentist gave me some stronger antibiotics. But for some reason the antibiotics only fed the infection and made it worse! So Tuesday night I went to the emergency room and all they could do was give me an iv of morphine and clindamycin, because they didnt have an oral surgeon on call. They then sent me home with pain killers. Then Wed around 3pm my dentist told me to go to the hospital since he couldnt help me. I checked in at Providence at 3:15 and wasnt admitted till 7pm that evening. They told me they wouldnt have an oral surgeon available till the next day, but because the infection was so severe, they wanted to get me on an iv of antibiotics. So all night and morning I was on antibiotics, and around noon on Thursday the oral surgeon came and opened up the pocket. It hurt like hell when he opened it up and drained out 12cc of pus....way nasty....he then stitched in a drain and told me they were keeping me for another 24 hrs. Thursday afternoon the swelling finally started to come down and with subsequent ivs of antibiotics, the swelling dropped almost entirely. So now I still have some swelling and its tender, but the infection has been stopped. Yay! Im to be discharged at 11am today, if the doc gives his okay.
