Wow, that came outta nowhere. Guess Ive been thinking about heading to South Padre Island this weekend to honor the very last first anniversary event. Aug 10, 2013, was the day we released Kats ashes into the bay near Annapolis, MD, so she could swim with the dolphins forever. Sunday my original wedding band will join Kat in the ocean from the very beach we spent our honeymoon camping out 40 years ago (+ 3 months exactly). Anyway, I walked into Hobby Lobby earlier today. Those of you who have shopped Hobby Lobby know that the front quarter of the store is dedicated to the next major season. That means fall deco and right behind it Christmas. Since I brought no Christmas with me and none of the trees would fit in my condo, I started to look for a nice desktop tree. As I rounded a corner, I was hit we ith an enormous tsunami of emotion as I gazed upon an entire wall of Santas. Kat was a collector of Santas. Last Christmas I counted over 60. We had only been married 40 years. She must have snuck in a bunch. The tradition was I bought her a new Santa every year, usually before we even brought the decorations in and the new Santa would be put on display to patiently await the others. The emotions overwhelmed me. Following a significant loss, it is important to continue traditions to honor the memories. Sometimes it is also just as important to establish new traditions. My children have inherited the collection. I will buy a new Santa for my condo and that will be all. I live in a new place, in a new town in a new state, so its time for new traditions. Of course, I couldnt bring myself to look for a new Santa today, but I will next week. Just did not expect the emotion today. PEACE ALL!
