Wow this is my second time making this post the first post somehow mysteriously deleted itself lol. But my mom would probably say the devil is a liar And I find that to be true and I realize he doesnt want me to make this post. I have worked for the city of Lima for about 29 years, 26 of those years with the Lima Fire Department. In that time I have built some great relationships with many white firefighters who I look to as being my brothers . I shared a lot with these guys Ive watch their families grow and they have watch my family grow. Weve shared celebrations and we shared funerals weve worked side by in emergency situations. One thing I have learned that in a smoked filled room we all are the same color. If I was to fall thru a burnt out floor I could care less the color of the hand that reached down and pulled me out of that fire. Secondly Ive been coaching youth sports for over 22 years basketball, football and track. Ive coached youth of all races social economic backgrounds and diversity. Ive feed them transported them and gave them the love that of a father. Ive witnessed many of them grow up to be successful in life, they invite me to their graduations, to their wedding and to their baby showers. I believe in my heart that I have gained the respect of many in my community both black and white. However Im no fool and I realize that many of them stab me in the back both black and white. I know many of you will read this and say why are you making this a color thing? Im not making it a color thing unfortunately in our community it already is a color thing! A perfect example is this past weekend there was a basketball game between two local schools. The the atmosphere was lively because of the rivalry, the stands were packed and the fans rooted for their respective teams. Like any competition someone has to win and someone has to lose. But for some reason theres always those fans they cannot take the L. During and after the game there was some lively conversation between the opposing fans. As they exited the gymnasium and the elderly white lady was her to say thats typical of those Lima n*gg**s. Immediately I was reminded that this was the same little old white lady that was cheering for those black athletes from her favorite school a few minutes ago. So I had to ask myself the question what does she think of them typically? As I look back at all the kids that Ive coached and mentor to over the years there was nothing typical about any of them. They were my children. As I look back at all the firefighters I fought fire with side by side over all these years there was nothing typical about them. They were my brothers! People this is the year 2015,WAKE UP!!!! . Yes Black Lives Matter!Yes White Lives Matter! and Yes Police Lives Matter! The question is Will you Matter?
