Wow, this was really, really good. It received ten Academy Award nominations at the 2013 Oscars, but did not win a single one. Thats too bad. I would have voted for this one over Argo, and Argo was very good. Maybe Argo won because it was the truest story. American Hustle is inspired by the FBIs ABSCAM operations in the 70s and 80s. I dont know. What I do know is this is a killer cast. Every single one knocked it out of the park on this one. Im glad Bradley Cooper is taking on more roles where hes not just a pretty boy because he can act. Christian Bale is good in every single role he takes on. The man has done nothing but great work in every movie Ive seen him in. Jeremy Renner is solid. He is the glue that keeps every film hes in together. I liken him to Robert Duvall. I dont watch any of Jennifer Lawrences or Amy Adamss movies, but they are terrific in this. This cast could have been given a shit script and turn it to gold. Even comedian Louis CK is great in this. His character is so straight-laced that you dont even recognize him. I knew his face, but I couldnt put a name to him til I was almost all the way through the movie. I have not seen very many David O Russell directed films--this one, The Fighter, I Hear Huckabees, and Three Kings. I liked all of those movies. I dont really have an interest in Silver Linings Playbook, but between that, The Fighter, and American Hustle, he has directed multiple stars to multiple Academy Award nominations and several wins. There is one thing I dont like about this movie, but its really minor and I cant talk about it if you havent seen it. But it really has no impact on the movie at all. I just dont like the use of a certain actor.
