Wow, what a day yesterday! We started off in Petersfield in the morning which is the nearest town centre, to practice all we had learned about distractions, pavement and positioning around shops, how to deal with members of the public wanting to stroke our gorgeous pups, etc. Drew a crowd watching Xeni pick up items I intentionally dropped for him in the shopping centre, which he retrieved perfectly each time, placing them gently in my hand and sitting at heel to wait for his next instruction. Coped brilliantly with a very young toddler who launched herself at him (parent miles away!!), I was able to get Xeni to sit, wait and leave it, getting his focus firmly on me, while the mother grabbed her kid and apologised. We then even joined a whole school of children walking through the town on their way back from a carol concert, and Xeni had eyes only for me! Hes such a super pup! The Canine Partners training manager was out with us observing our training, and had a little chat with me afterwards, telling me that she had heard great things about my match with Xeni and how well we were doing, and that now she had seen us she was delighted, and couldnt remember a time when she had seen a bond develop so quickly or such great work so quickly in training. High praise indeed :-D Went to lunch feeling absolutely elated :-D Afternoon took us to a large park where we practiced recalls, obedience tasks and then gave Xeni a chance to play with other public dogs, which he chose to say Hi to but stick with me. Learned that I can command him to lie down from a distance and wait if I need to, which is very reassuring if I spot a danger anywhere. Altogether a fabulous day!
