Wow, what a marathon this last Sunday. I set a new mark for - TopicsExpress

Wow, what a marathon this last Sunday. I set a new mark for myself in the first 1/2 of the marathon and bettered my time in the marathon. But, here is the most important thing that I learned. I got to 19 miles and it was cold. My legs were not cooperating. They were stiff and cold (I was running in shorts - my miscalculation at the start of the race). My left butt check muscle felt like a red hot poker was stabbing it. I couldnt feel my left big toe and next toe, so I was running without a regular steady gait - everything was off. the wind was blowing at over 30 mph and cold from the north. IT WAS FREEZING! I was very cold. I thought for the first time of giving up. My bad voice said; who is going to know? So what? everyone will understand. BUT. I persevered. I found a way to finish. At 19 miles I said to myself YOU WILL NEVER MAKE IT 7 MORE MILES. At 20 miles I reasoned that I only had 6 more to go. Guess what? I finished and learned that our limits are way beyond what our little protective minds let us think that we can do. What a way to end a racing year, that saw my do my first marathon and now second marathon, a 1/2 marathon, a 10 mile race and a team member in a 50 mile race. I put in over 1500 miles of training. Thank goodness for OPC-3, my understanding and beautiful wife, my daughter Amy DeLair (who get me started running) and a great doctor. Thanks for listening. Lets sign up for some races next year. Where are you going to run??
