Wow, what miserable weather yesterday! But not to worry, the sun is peeking out again and Clamber Club is still in full swing!! Loads of fun happening in class this week.. Froggies are focusing on coordination of their body sides (Left and Right) while Leapfrogs are going to be learning all about Trains and how to move their bodies in different spaces. LEFT and RIGHT COORDINATING BODY SIDES DID YOU KNOW? The ability to coordinate the right and left sides of the body and to cross the midline of the body is an indication that both sides of the brain are: •working well together •sharing information efficiently Good coordination of the 2 body sides is an important foundation for: •writing, or drawing •cutting with scissors •any activity that requires the cooperative use of both hands - lego, pop beads etc. When your child does activities that involve the use of both hands, he is: •promoting communication between the left and right brain •helping to develop a dominant hand Spatial concepts Become aware of: Shapes: round, circle, half, rectangle, square, triangle, edge, corner, line, straight… Positional relationships: end, beginning, start, first, middle, last, next, alongside… Size: small, tall, big, little, fat, large, narrow, high, enormous, thin, tiny… UNDERSTANDING SPACE Give your child opportunities: to describe the position of himself and of objects in his environment provide him with concrete experiences to develop the ability to make use of his knowledge.
