Wright-Hatch Journalism Scholarship is Available Until August 31, 2014. By: Brandi MacArthur The Sault Tribe Higher Education Department is currently offering the Wright-Hatch Journalism Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. In order to be eligible the student must complete a 2014/2015 Higher Education Assistance Application Packet (this includes an application,W-9 form and requests a copy of their tribal card). They must also complete a scholarship essay following the assigned topic: “You applied for and won a grant in the amount of $50,000 which must be invested into the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. You may invest the funds in any way that you see appropriate. How would you invest the funds and in what ways would it create a positive impact for the tribe as a whole?” The student must refer to the scholarship guidelines to ensure that their essay follows the requirements such as font type, word count, etc… The student must complete the provided essay cover letter and attach it to the front of their essay. The Wright-Hatch Journalism Scholarship requires the student to be an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. The student must be an undergrad who is enrolled full-time which is 12 credit hours per semester (for both Fall and Winter/Spring). The student can be enrolled at any accredited two- or four-year college or university working towards an associates or bachelors degree specifically related to journalism. The deadline for this scholarship is August 31, 2014. All documentation must be submitted to Brandi MacArthur, Administrative Assistant, Sault Tribe Higher Education, 523 Ashmun Street, Sault Ste.
