Write down in your agenda: 22 August Albufeira - Algarve Dear friends and animal lovers: We are a group citizens of various nationalities concerned with the existance of the Albufeira Bullring in OUR city, with the existence of bullfighting in our contry and in the world.! We have been battling to make a difference, attempting to CLOSE DOWN the Albufeira bullring, by protesting peacefully next to this bullring, writting to government entities, pleading with the Prime Minister and the City Council of Albufeira...the list goes on and on... In case you are unaware, Albufeira´s bullring holds the most bullfights in Portugal… meaning that MORE bullfights takeplace here then anywhere else in Portugal… and more spectators attend.This mainly because most spectators are TOURISTS who are NOT aware of the carnage, suffering and torture that takes place here... Most are MISLEAD into BELIEVING that its a type of rodeo or mock bullfighting where the bulls and horses do not get killed and therefore actually dont suffer... WE NEED the voice of ALL animal protectors and defendors, so that we may end the torture of innocent bulls, calves and horses in the name of tradition or culture… WE NEED the voices of Portuguese people, British, Dutch,German, South African, French, Russian…Everyone ! WE NEED YOUR VOICES because you too are PART of OUR Albufeira, our Algarve, our country!!! Even when you just come here as tourists. These animals DO NOT have a voice...and those who watch a bullfight OFTEN walk out a few minutes into the show crying and vomiting… horrified… once faced with reality... We would like to INVITE YOU TO PLEASE JOIN US in the next peaceful protest on the 22 August by 8pm. The bullfighting of the 22/8 will be broadcasted live by the Portuguese TV network RTP1… a disgrace… and therefore it is CRUCIAL that we have MANY protestors !!! WE NEED TO BE UNITED. After all, Bulls, calves and horses are ALSO animals, just as cats, dogs and other pets also are ! The National Guard (GNR) will be present to ensure our safety. They always are. We are in NO DANGER, it is our DEMOCRATIC RIGHT to protest Our protests are pacific, though we NEED TO BE HEARD. The bullfighting starts at 10pm, and our meeting place is at the parking lot, opposite CORCOVADA ROUNDABOUT, in front of Roberto´s chicken restaurant, about 100 meteres away from the bullring at 8pm.!!! Please bring anything that makes noise. Whistles, banners, reflective waistcoats...or just yourselves and your energy and good vibes :-) PLEASE HELP US STOP THIS TORTURE. We are in the 21st Century, let NO ANIMAL DIE in TOTAL AGONY in the name of entertainment / applause ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !!! We THANK YOU ON THEIR BEHALF.!
