Write to your MP about the new emergency legislation on phone - TopicsExpress

Write to your MP about the new emergency legislation on phone tapping and other communications monitoring: https://writetothem/ Heres the letter I just sent to my MP: ======================== Dear Mr Davies, I am writing to you in regard to an article posted on the BBC Website this morning entitled Emergency phone and internet data storage law to be brought in[0]. The article states that Emergency legislation will be brought in next week to force phone and internet companies to log records of customer calls, texts and internet use.. I would urge you to object to this legislation on the basis that a week is not long enough for the due diligence and usual checks and balances that Parliament is elected for to be put in place. The European Court has already rejected the EU Data Retention Directive as being in breach of respect for private life and protection of personal data [1] and this legislation is being forced through Parliament to appease those who wish to continue the legacy from the previous labour government of restricting the civil liberties of the citizens of the United Kingdom. I urge you to work across parties with colleagues such as Tom Watson MP to ensure that this bill is given the proper consultation that it deserves. Yours sincerely, Matthew Macdonald-Wallace [0] bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-28237108 (bbc.co.uk, accessed 09:43 10/07/2014) [1] bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26935096 (bbc.co.uk, access 09:47, 10/07/2014) ==================
