Writers are given such terrible advice from so-called experts. Leave out all adverbs and adjectives! For one. I truly believe this originated from a combination of folks who do not understand proper usage, and editors/ publishers trying everything they can to save money on printing. Cutting all corners at the expense of folks like me who want the picture painted using words as crafted by a true artisan. It is a disservice to both writer and reader. Kill all the adverbs! ...... Only when used incorrectly. When used correctly, they enhance the otherwise bare - bones, rough draft looking tale. Sadly, far too many writers fall for strict guidelines which can ruin a brilliant piece of art. What if all painters were told, Only use black and white. Kill all the colors, it muddies up your work! The world would be quite dull.....
