Writing fiction is sometimes comparable to giving birth sans the benefit of anesthetic I imagine. So much of what I write as fiction is derived from my personal life experience. Who wants to read this stuff?, I ask myself. Then I am reminded that I am writing this for me, not for you. I actually did become involved with the American Indian Movement in the mid-1970s and came to know the founders of AIM, Dennis Banks and Russell Means in Menominee, Wisconsin and came to a better understanding of the plight of the Native American tribes all over the nation that persists even now. I left in frustration after coming to the conclusion that there is no solution to the problems inherent in the lives of Native Americans unless they are willing to assimilate into the larger society and quite often not even then. My maternal grandparents were both Cherokee (he was half-white, she was a full-blooded beauty) who moved off the reservation and lived their lives as white people, raising their family in the white culture. How well they did with that is still an open question. I could say a lot more about this, but will save it for the novel. Listening to my Eagles album on my iPod this morning, taking a respite from the writing. Im utilizing the wi-fi of my downstairs neighbor while waiting to go back on-line with AT&T after my modem failed. I am scheduled for after 8 p.m. tonight. AT&T keeps strange hours of operation. Have a wonderful Saturday everybody. Love yas...
