Writing from Life: A Mindful Poetry Workshop Series 3 Tuesday - TopicsExpress

Writing from Life: A Mindful Poetry Workshop Series 3 Tuesday evenings in June “Breathe in experience, breathe out poetry.” Muriel Rukeyser Join us as we practice noticing and expressing life. In these workshops, we’ll explore ways to pay attention to our experience and find the words to express that experience. We’ll enjoy and examine poetry that does that well and see what we can learn and use in our own writing. We’ll write in class and take home prompts and ideas for writing outside class. This is a workshop for opening up, trying new things, listening to our own voices, playing with ideas, experiences, and words--finding our poetry. The emphasis is not on craft, though if participants choose, we may look at the way craft techniques (lines, stanzas, sounds, rhythm, etc.) can shape our writing. This is not a critique group, but a workshop to support and inspire writing. Some people will write poems, and others may choose to write other things. Some topics we may explore: writing from the senses, poetry inspired by art and music, poetry hiding in every-day life. Tuesdays, June 11, 18, and 25 6:30 - 8:30 pm The Center for Mindfulness Price: $75 for the series (includes everything but a notebook and pen) Limited to 8 participants--reserve your spot now.
