Writing seems to be one of the few career paths where the public expects you to work for free. (The, I wont buy e-books that cost more than $3, crowd!) Guess what, writing is a LOT of work. Dont believe me? Try writing a book! The fact that EVERYONE claims to have a book or two in their head, but never actually put their butt in the chair and hands on the keyboard tells you just how much work it is. If you want your favorite authors to be able to produce more books, you need to pay for their work. People dont go to restaurants, order dinner, then expect to pay $1.99 for a seven course meal. If you want to continue to read awesome books from awesome authors, you need to support them. Otherwise they have to quit writing and get jobs at Wal-Mart to pay their bills. And that means no more books. And what a tragedy that would be. Of course, many of these same people who shun the thought of paying $10 for a book have no problem dropping $150 for a subscription to DirectTVs sports package. Or spend $300 for football tickets. PS: This also applies to photography as well. There is a reason photographers charge $50 per print! Its not to screw you. Its because they spent 10 hours, in the pouring rain to get that one shot. Its because they spent another 5 hours in digital darkroom, editing, adjusting light levels, and then printing the photo on HIGH quality archival paper. You want the shot? Pay for it! Dont expect them to give it away for free.
