Written by Pete Townshend and sang mostly by Roger Daltrey, Baba - TopicsExpress

Written by Pete Townshend and sang mostly by Roger Daltrey, Baba ORiley is derived from this combination of the songs philosophical and musical influences: Meher Baba, the Indian mystic and spiritual master, and Terry Riley, the American composer intrinsically associated with the minimalist school of Western classical music and pioneer of the movement as his work has been deeply influenced by both jazz and Indian classical music. Pete Townshend claimed in an interview that, at least in part, Baba O Riley was about what he witnessed at the Whos performance at Woodstock. On this song the idea of inserting a violin solo at the coda of the song, during which the style of the song shifts from crashing rock to an Irish folk-style beat belongs to drummer Keith Moon. Moons drum fill in the middle of this song which starts at 2:29 is syncopated, emotional, and perfect to lead the song back into the groove. The song is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for being one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.
