Written in Honor of Marionette Oliver ABOUT LAST NIGHT Worship last night at New Hope was awesome! Pastor Chineta gave the welcome and lit the first advent candle while she reminded everyone that we are to walk in the light of Christ--especially in the season of preparation (Advent). The choir picked up the refrain and everyone stood and sang Here I Am to Worship . With the first words of the song being light of the world you stepped out in to darkness, opened my eyes let me see...., it helped to set the atmosphere for praise and worship. Singing continued with the song of invocation being Walk in the Light Worship leader Zeke Woollett led us in the Call to Worship and Prayer of Confession which was followed by a song of meditation and reflection played by Mark Henley. Rev. Beverly Powell assured us that we were children of Gods great light and that by grace and mercy our sins are forgiven Bill Bush shared an inspiring and compelling faith story, reminding us that we have much to be grateful for and that we can live out the love of Christ each and every day. There is true freedom in living for Christ! The choir accented Bills message by singing Total Praise. It was POWERFUL, SOULFUL AND RICH. Pastor Chineta rose to preach, the choir went back into the song with even more power and conviction!!!! AMEN and AMEN! Pastor Chinetas sermon Anticipation and Appreciation got everyone thinking about how we are to prepare for the coming of Christ. We must be willing to respond to present needs and realities in the community and society as we prepare to celebrate the birth and return of Christ. From issues of hunger, racism, and poverty we have the opportunity, power and promise of Christ to make the advent season a season of purpose, justice and peace. We are the light of the world and we must live in the light by acknowledging hurt and restoring hope to our community and world. The scripture for this message was I Corinthians 1:1-9. New Hope honored the media and tech team after the announcements. We recognized and thanked Charity Lambert, Baxter Talbert, Tom Dykhuezin, Lauren Glenn, Marionette Oliver and Lawrence Lambert. Their pictures, videos, sound, power point and images make a difference! Rev. Beverly Powell shared the message of dedication and the congregation rose to sing Let there be Peace on Earth. This service was meaningful, worship-filled and was followed by a great potluck dinner in the fellowship hall. I love this church!!!! I always will!!!! Praising God for New Hope Presbyterian Church
