Wrote by Julia Mc Cully Dear Mayor Roxanne Carr, I am writing this letter in regards of the petition to save Eli. Im sure you have been buried with emails, tweets and Facebook posts pleading in favour of the Kropp family to keep their dear pet Eli. In this social media age we live in, this story has gone viral in just a few mere days spreading all over the world and it continues to spread. As a mayor, you are in a position of power and are expected to meet the needs of your people. Can you not see the vast difference between those few people who wish Eli to be removed from the Kropp household compared to thousands of people who would do anything to see him stay with his loving family. I understand you have to obey bylaws and address concerns of citizens but this pig is not just a regular pig. He is very intelligent, he is a well kept pet who is a vital part of the Kropp family, he benefits the community by being a companion animal to children, and Im sure he would bring a smile to your face if ever made the time to meet him. As far as Im concerned Eli contributes to society and brings joy to peoples lives on a daily basis. This is an admiral trait for any citizen to have let alone a family pet. I am outraged that the complaint of one disgruntled neighbour has put the fate of this pets life on the chopping block. Removing Eli from his rightful home of 4 years would be a tragedy for his family members and neighbours. I do not understand the risk that Eli poses as a loved pet. He is smaller in height and weight than a vast majority of dogs, he is clean and well kept, he is friendly, compassionate and trained as a pet. This is an innocent pig who has never wronged anyone. Please take a moment and put yourself in the position of Elis family. Think of the painful goodbyes those young girls would be muttering through tears to their beloved pet as they see him being escorted out their front door to a live a life so different to the one he has grown accustomed to.
