Wynn is our Spotlight Athlete of the week I asked Wynn some questions for the spotlight and he was nice enough to type up the responses. Wynn has lived a pretty interesting life. We love having him in the box. I dont think Wynn has ever been in a bad mood in his life! 1. Where did I grow up? I was born and raised in Germany. My family and I live behind the Iron Curtain (after the Second World War), which was the Russian Zone in East Germany. I lived under the Russian communist government until my family escaped out of the Russian Zone and East Germany. 2. My childhood, until 8 years of age, was living in Communist Germany. My family and I escaped from the Russians and lived in a refugee camp until I was 10 years old. At that time my family and I were privileged to immigrate to the United States and we came to Utah. I feel hugely blessed to live in this free country, where we can vote, and where we have a Bill of Rights and a Constitution for the people. We did not have that in East Germany. I grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School, attended the University of Utah for a year, served a mission in Switzerland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, then served in the US Army and did a tour in Viet Nam. Upon my return from the war, I attended BYU and graduated there in 1973 in Engineering. 3. I met wy wife Bette, the love of my life, at BYU. We met in a Ski Class, and have been skiing ever since. We have 6 children, all great kids, and now have 7 grand children. 4. What do I do for work? I had a career with the US Postal Service, mostly in their Facility and Real Estate Departments. I retired from my job in 2002 and then started my own consulting business, Facility Development Group, Inc. We provide project management services to companies and corporations when they have a need to relocate or construct a new office facility. I love my work. It is my passion. 5. Why did I start Crossfit? I got exposed to Crossfit through my oldest daughter who lives in Idaho and started going to Crossfit. We were visiting with her and she invited me to go to her Crossfit class in Idaho Falls. It only took one class to get me hooked. I loved it. 6. Why do I continue to go to Crossfit? I am hooked on the classes. I totally love the variety of workouts, I love the warmups and stretches before we start our class, and I love how it taxes me and my strength and endurance. I pushes me to do and give my best. I keep going because I feel to darn good each time I go. I am now 70 years old, and I feel like I am 45 again. I am lifting more, I am stronger and am in all around great shape for a Grandfather! 7. What do I like to do at Crossfit? I mostly love the variety. It is never the same workout. The workouts work all parts of my body. I love the burpees, the rowing, I like the pullups, the weight lifting. I love doing and holding the Plank, and enjoy the competition in our class. I also like the instructors who seem to give me personal attention when I do my workouts. And I like the comraderie of my fellow crossfitters!!. 8. What dont I like to do? Wallballs. I hate them!! SKILL - practice rope climbs WOD - 18 minute AMRAP - 4 clapping push-ups 8 medball cleans 20/14 12 medball sit-ups 20/14 1 rope climb Competitors: Every 2 minutes, for 12 minutes (6 sets): Clean & Jerk @ 85% of your 1-RM C&J 1 Minute Max Rep Push Press 60% of 1 rm White Board 11-17-14
