XV FESTIVAL RAÍZES DO ATLÂNTICO 17,18 e 19 de Julho JARDIM MUNICIPAL, FUNCHAL TODAY Thursday, July 17TH 9.00 pm Municipal Garden - Funchal BANDA DALÉM Group for collecting and performing the poetic-musical tradition of Madeira and Porto Santo. A large part of the memory of folk music or oral tradition in Madeira is, as many of us know, largely lost. Traditional music is functional; when the function ceases, the music enters a state of waiting until the carrier dies. It survives in the memory of the last performers and then ceases for lack of transmission. Part of what is still recorded today only now survives in the memory of the performers, especially the work songs, because the respective manual tasks have disappeared. The group Banda d’ Além springs from this leafy tree, the expression of music that is preserved in the memory of those who went before them and who deserve our respect, the respect of those who are to come. The group began its activity in 1995, and has travelled throughout the island of Madeira, the Azores, the Portuguese mainland, Germany, Spain and Venezuela, giving voice to this lusophone cultural identity, shared, in various ways, by the Portuguese speaking countries of Africa.
