Xavier update: Xavier enjoyed his visits from gramma, aunt - TopicsExpress

Xavier update: Xavier enjoyed his visits from gramma, aunt Beth, uncle Travis, uncle Frank, and cousins Emerson, Bennett, and Harper. Mommy and daddy enjoyed them too. He successfully pulled out his IV from his foot this morning- hence why theyve moved to his head. Nurses said that if he yanks this one out theyre not going to redo it. Hes had enough pokes. And his IV antibiotics will go through his main line. Hes eating more and more breast milk with every feeding and theyve decided to pull his TPN fluid upon his next feeding in a couple if hours. (Electrolytes and sugar). He will then be strictly on breast milk. Much better for him anyway. Mommy got to practice breast feeding for the first time today(amazing!) and he did well. He also has been taking the bottle really well. He still has feeding tube in his nose as hes not always sucking (a withdrawal symptom of morphine causes his jaw to shake and he cant get a good latch) so if he doesnt finish with bottle, they use his tube. He continues to impress the nurses with how fast hes healing. Not to mention they all keep talking about him and visiting every night because they also think hes a true miracle! One nurse even said shes seen babies who have had the same treatment with less of an injury take more than 10 days to eat normally, Xavier started with his first feeding! Go Xavier! He did have to have some methadone(candy as they called it. Lol) to help ease the withdrawal symptoms. They dont think hell need anymore as he seems to be a lot more settled than before. Still a bit shaky and agitated at times. But not enough for intervention. Lets hope it stays that way! Mommy and daddy are thrilled with all this good news. Or great news for that matter, that weve been able to sleep better as just counting the days until we get to come home. We will know more on Friday when he is done with antibiotics. We truly believe in the power of prayer and that angels walk among us in the form of nicu staff. Theyve been a key part in his healing. Xavier wanted to share his army of angels with the other sick babies in the nicu. Especially baby Riley, who was a micro preemie born at 27 weeks. He also wants to share his earth angels and warriors to help give her parents Nadine and Mia the strength to get through. He knows how hard it is when all the answers are I dont know, and only time will tell. We love all of you and cant express out gratitude enough! God is great!
