YAHOO BIBLE SCHOOL! 2 Tim 3:16-17 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. NIV The course was being plotted, full steam ahead! Wait just a minute! My dad had been asking around. He heard some things about this Bible School that I was so excited about attending. And the things he was hearing were not good reports. Dad asked, “What is the name again of that Pastor of the school you are going to be attending”? I told him the name. “I was hoping you would not say that name”, he said. He was hearing things like “that group is a cult”! Even the name of the Pastor/ leader had come up as an authoritarian “cult leader“ a number of times by others. Were these early warning signs to take caution of? Or, was it just obstacles trying to get in my way of pursuing my course? I disregarded all of them and continued. This “caution bump” in the road I dismissed and went flying over it. It caused quite an alignment problem to my little spiritual car that would become a very big deal down the road! In the fall, we attended an orientation for Bible School and selected classes. I was so excited to learn God’s WORD! Everyone we met was at a very high level of zeal and excitement. Classes started. The WORD of God poured into me. I soaked every morsel like a dry thirsty sponge. The teachers at Bible School were so incredibly graced with an ability to expound upon the scriptures. A full load of courses was about 15 hours a week and we loaded up! Chapel services were at 8AM and then 3 hrs a day of bible after that. The WORD of God was changing me from day to day, oh, how I was taking it in! The background and lack of experience in study skill sets came back to haunt me. I would be in the college library for hours on end. The books and commentaries were many, but my comprehension and reading ability were very low. Many times I sat there in tears. I plodded onward. The only way that things got easier was through time and reading, reading, reading. I wanted it bad enough to stick with it. God was gracious to me and encouraged me at the very low points. The reward and end result of college 4 years later would be a THB degree with a 3.2 grade point average. RaeAnn and I married young at 19 years of age and started our family right away having our first child Jacob at age 20 and then Rebekah at age 21. RaeAnn dearly desired to go to school along with me, but was prevented by pregnancies. Being with other people with the same mind-set is quite exhilarating, it speeds you with intensity and momentum in the direction of your pursuit. Like a young person with a newly derived driver’s license, we launched out onto the roads with little regard of where we were going or what we were doing. It was just very important for us to be on the road and to go very fast, and that we did. To this day, I am so very thankful for all of the great training I received and the basic tools derived from my Bible School experience. Especially, it should be noted, that the teachers that were sat under were most impressively dedicated to their calling. To them I pay tribute. We were able to learn how to preach, how to teach, how to study, how to witness, how to worship, how to pray, how to sing, how to communicate, and much more. Most of this was learned as a child would learn behavior in a family and/or to speak a language. Just by being in the culture and in the atmosphere of where it occurs, it is being learned. Being around others who know how to pray teaches one to effectively pray, if exposed to those who prophesy you learn it. Being at school, chapel services, then church services several times a week, with people so committed and intense to their cause, is like drinking a bottle of positive endorphins everyday! It is like being catapulted in your journey! We were with 100’s of other young people running after their dream of being use by God in full time service!
