YAY!!! "The Design Review Board also gave conditional approvals to fish sculpture installations at Black River Landing and Trolley Loop Park, the parcel across Broadway from Lorain City Hall. Paul Biber of the Follow the Fish Art & Adventure Trail and Ralph Bruening, facilities manager and special events coordinator for the Lorain Port Authority, spoke about the 16-foot fish sculptures that will be set up. The Black River Landing also will get two 6-foot-long walleye sculptures mounted atop poles; they will be about 8 and 9 feet high standing east of the stage area. The fish at the trolley loop will replace the plywood board set up as a notice sign. The 16-foot fish sculptures are mounted with a pole cemented in the ground. The Follow the Fish Art & Adventure Trail is a public art project designed to promote local artists and businesses, Biber said. The concept is a great one, said design board member Andrea Neal. It also was unusual for the board because the sculptures are not the same as signage or building exteriors usually under review, said President Gary Fischer. “This is new for all of us,” he said. “We’re all sort of like fish out of water here.” Biber said the art trail committee hopes to install the fish as soon as possible so people see them at the June 22 Summer ArtSHop Trail on Broadway and the International Festival Bazaar after that.
