YAY one major project completed. Ever get tired of having to gingerly sit on a sofa? We finally had one break on us. (No surprise: we have a large family bunch of huge Germanic people and a few seven foot tall relatives). Not helped by the tendency to plop down on it either. So long story short: love the huge overstuffed cushions and considered new sofa (we have the money) but we are fixing our home up to sell. Why invest in something that might not work well for our next home? So we opened it up: discovered that the frame was made with a pair of 1x2s and that the front edge had cracked along with the fascia. So we went and got a spare set of sofa springs, doubled the springs (and softened them by reducing tension) and replaced all of the 1x2 framing with 2x4 and added additional framing to the center with two center spans and doubling the stress points with additional sections of 2x4. And instead of crappy staples we used screws, braces and mending plates to assemble and construct the frame. Now we have an uber comfy couch that we can also use as a trampoline ....or um (blush) for anything else that we deem fun. Of course if we keep this and it fits the size/shape of our new home (we are planning to remodel/improve and then sell our home and upgrade) but not the color then we can just order or make slip covers in a different color scheme.
