YCLSA applauds the Department of Basic Education The Young - TopicsExpress

YCLSA applauds the Department of Basic Education The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] applauds the Department of Basic Education for finally acceding to the demand of the YCLSA of not publishing matric results in newspapers. The Department has decided to only publish Identity Numbers and not the full name of the learner starting this December. As the YCLSA we have won half the battle as we are totally opposed to the publications of results. The publishing of Identity Numbers will deal with the issue of learners who are mocked for not appearing in the paper. However, we will still vigorously campaign for the total abolishment of the practice of publishing matric results in newspapers. We believe that in publishing the results, the only people that benefit the most are the private owners and shareholders of newspapers through the profits they make from sky-rocketing sales driven by the results. We further maintain our view that matric results are between the learner and the Department. They should be kept confidential between the two parties and not splashed in newspapers. Learners do not write examinations through newspapers, but through schools and therefore should and can get their results from school instead of newspapers. The YCLSA will continue to engage the Department on this practice and give concrete reason on why it should be totally abolished. We appeal to the Department to look into modern Technology as an alternative form of communicating results to candidates. Issued by the YCLSA Head Office
