YEAR 12 EXAMS - HOW TO DEAL WIRH THE STRESS Today is the first day of the last term of school ever for roughly 220,000 Year 12 students in Australia. The mixture of excitement and fear will vary in each student. But one thing is consistently high for all, the anxiety or overwhelm, of being pressured to do well and know exactly what to do after school. The message to send to all seniors right now, is this: Just chill! In todays system, it easier than ever to change track once you start a tertiary study course or a new job. The pressure placed on our students is far too great and completely unnecessary. Any educator, psychologist, sports trainer or life coach knows about the productivity bell curve and how important it is for students to remain in the optimum stress for productivity range. Basically, too little or no stress, fails to provide motivation, which therefore means productivity is too low. Too much stress, creates overwhelm and often paralysing fear, which destroys productivity. Productive stress is in between and varies from one person to the next. Become aware of the amount of stress YOU need to be highly productive and maintain that pressure. No more! The key is balancing your relaxation time and clear focus on the reality of the situation. You know what you know. You have done what you can and now it is simply time to find out exactly what that is. The outcome of OP results and senior exams, DOES NOT DEFINE WHO YOU ARE FOR LIFE! You do not stop learning now, you are about to begin! School is only 12 years of your life, which is less one fifth of most life spans! Do you think, maybe, if you dont get the outcome you are after now, there is time to make it happen in a different way? Absolutely! Does this mean you should slack off now and not bother with study? Absolutely not! It means it is time to get yourself focused on what you want your results to be. Be realistic about them. Study. Balance it with family and friends time. Keep track of your stress and anxiety levels. When they rise to unproductive levels, remind yourself that this is only one point in time. You have a lifetime to do other things.
