YEAR END OR NEAR END : Being in the profession of banking, - TopicsExpress

YEAR END OR NEAR END : Being in the profession of banking, finance and industries, I have the oppurtunity of witnessing the mad rush at the last days of a financial year. Since 31 March is a cut off date for judging financial performance of anyear, there is always a rush to improve topline ( sales/receipts/turnover) as well as bottomline ( profits). Its also a date when a signal of all is well has to be projected to all stakeholders. Why not, the fate of Companies credit ratings, employees performance and incentives, sales teams incentives and at individual level, ones own satisfaction that he or she has performed better than last year gives a sense of satisfaction. I personally always felt that lets do our work sincerely, not look at the figures, they will be better in letter and spirit. Window dressing of facts will not give actual satisfaction. My collections were lower this year but aftual work done was good, and am satisfied. During last few months, I was in a dilemma. My work were not getting done the way I had planned. People with lesser talent were able to push through their cases while mine were getting stuck up and slowed down. Questions were visible in clients faces and minds though not reflected in words, did they chose wrong consultants? I for a moment, started thinking that the very basis on which I practice my profession is wrong. One should swim with the tide. Little corruption is ok, I thought. At the end of the day clients want results, methods immaterial. Should I change to a more practical view, not be so rigid in ethical practice ? It also affects the emotional balance since you see corruption and mediocrity being awarded over talent and honesty. Should I change the way I look at things and situations ? Am I expecting too much when I expect commitments from people to stick to their words or its ok if people promise and donot deliver ? Will I always be taken for granted or should I put my foot down? Should I be real professional and not get attached to the assignments as if they were my own & suffer pain due to expectation? I presume such thoughts are normal in trying times. Am yet to get answers to my thoughts . Unfortunately, its too late in life to change radically. Best way is to accept things which we cannot change. May be next year end, I can post a better emotional satisfaction results ! One thing for sure, no year end need to be taken so seriously as if it Near End . Its not that from 1st April, there wont be sales or services. Heavens wouldnt fall if we do slightly fall behind target. Lets enjoy this wonderful gift called life,l year end will come next year too... Wishing all fb friends an excellent financial year 2014-15....
